Bear Hunt Feature #011

Bear Hunt - story tellers
We're going on a bear hunt. We're going to catch a big one. I'm not scared...
Enjoy seeing various ways that our lovely followers have set up play ideas for our bear hunt story tellers.
Building
The bear hunt is such a beloved story and Nicole @ncmummabird set up a simple invitation to play. Nicole's little one finds the matching discs as they tell the story and lines all of the discs up in order of the story. Then they're invited to build a cave! What a wonderful extension of their child's interest and incorporates both fine and gross motor into this play tray. Why fine motor? These little hands are pinching and grasping the thin discs which is building hand and eye coordination, hand muscles and grip strength. Why gross motor? Those little arms are stretching across the tray and grasping those wooden blocks with their whole hand. These motor skills are so important in developing little hands.
Sensory Play Tray
Rachel @immy_plays_and_learns has set up this incredible play tray for her little ones to go on their own bear hunt adventure. I love the amount of textures Rachel has added into this tray. Why are textures important? Touch enables children to get an understanding for what objects are and what they feel like by experiencing various shapes and textures.
Literacy
The wonderful May from @mandarinreaders is a big advocate for early literacy skills. What can that look like? This can be matching pictures to words as they are heard or read then encourage your child to describe what they see. This activity also promotes matching skills as well as sequencing. Sequencing is one of many skills that contributes to a child's ability to comprehend what they read. Sequencing refers to the identification of the components of a story — the beginning, middle, and end — and also to the ability to retell the events within a given text in the order in which they occurred.
